There are some boxes he checks with philosophy and history at certain places, and with veteran experience, which was 100% needed. No young up and comer.
There are questions if you dig deep enough and even more if you're specifically looking for negatives. But not really enough that we can pin directly on one position coach. If the guy tried, he could find just as many positives but chose not to.

Not being retained is common. It can have absolutely nothing to do with your quality. Coaches just like to get their own guys. It literally says nothing that he wasn't retained by Harbaugh. Thre entire industry is evidence of this.

My point about improving things is just more evidence that it's hard to quickly blame people for things too.
What if a position coach inherits a bunch of veteran seniors? What if he had a group like 2 years ago where USU lost their entire starting 5 seniors? What if there are a bunch of injuries? What if the QB, RB, and receivers are bleh regardless of the OL?

I mean, early on, they had Denard Robinson. Not only was he not a very great QB, that style is difficult to block for. QB didn't get any better for them either.

So many variables. Things improved immediately at UTSA, but they also got a really good RB. Like 2012, what changed with Weber? Nothing. Jamaal was just Jamaal.

I don't really understand getting nitpicky over things like this with position coaches to try to cherry pick the negative.

He does at least check the most important boxes for BYU right now. That doesn't mean it's guaranteed to work.

I really wanted the current UTSA coach. Matt Mattox. Or the coach at NAU.
