Cannot determine much from this game, for obvious reasons. That said, here’s a few takeaways:
Demin and Knell do appear to have some chemistry. Egor was able to find him all over the floor and Knell was knocking down the open three. Hope we see it versus elite competition as well.
Boskovic is a stretch big guy. No hesitation to shoot the outside shot, fluid stroke, and he puts it in the basket.
Egor’s court vision and passing is elite
The rest of Egor’s game was not really on display, but there were encouraging signs. That said, his dribbling style is a bit loose. I want to see how he does against a physical, athletic, in-your-face defender, the kind which surely awaits him in the Big 12.
Without a running start, Keita literally swatted a guy into the third row. His athleticism may be in the “unparalleled” category for BYU. Offensively? I suspect he’ll have his games but is in for some scoring droughts as well.
Dawson Baker has a scorer’s mentality and a nice offensive skill set
Catchings could easily be our top scorer. He has length athleticism, shooting and skill. Extremely high ceiling is evident.
Saunders is already good. I could see him blowing up this year as a top 3 dude on a very talented squad
I saw nothing from this group defensively, except for Keita’s athleticism that was noteworthy. This will be something to watch
The continuity challenge will be a real one. Expect growing pains. Trimming the rotation could really be a nightmare. But keeping a ton of talent, happy and engaged is a good and rather unique problem for BYU basketball.
That talent is real. Off of the eyeball test, the potential, (but only potential at this stage) exists for this group to become an all-time BYU squad.
