I think we are misreading each other. I am not disagreeing with anything you
said. You have been 100% correct on everything you’ve stated as far as the letter of the law, the standard etc. And I should’ve been more clear on

But you are guilty of some straw man. Come on. You argued against things I never said.

I already outlined the things you did that on so I won’t rehash it. But again, I never said “clear and present threat” was the law or standard. Again, I was just using that as a phrase for why opening your door with a gun in your hands does not give an officer the justification to shoot you. Even if he feels like his life in danger. Gotta have more than that. Just like you said the “totality” of everything etc.

Again, I am 100% correct that if the basic facts are that officer knocks on door, citizen opens door with gun in hand, but not pointed at officer or doing anything else in a threatening manner, then there’s no way he’s justified to shoot the citizen. Period.

But as I stated in the first post I made on this thread, not on my follow up or these replies, it would be very very unlikely that you those are the only facts and circumstances as to why the officer felt justified in using lethal force. BUT, it can and has happened before, and the officer was wrong, and was or should’ve been held fully accountable for it.

These situations are body cams are such a double edged sword for cops. They can help minimize false accusations etc. But they also don’t ever give the full totality of the situation, and the general public doesn’t get that.
