If MJ would have just “figured it out,” why did he only shoot 83% from the free throw line?
It was clearly part of his game, shooting free throws was common when he played, etc.

But 82.5 % was about the league average for guards and MJ shot 83.5% for his career. There were guys routinely shooting in the high 80s, low 90s.

Why didn’t MJ get his free throw percentage up? Did he not practice enough? Was he not tough enough mentally? He was ultra competitive, so he should have figured it out.

You argument is that MJ would have just “figured it out” when it came to shooting threes. If he had that in him, to sort of will himself into greatness, why couldn’t he do that with free throws?

Why wasn’t he able to get his free throw percentage as high as a guy like Larry Bird?
