realignment has spiked traffic and brought a whole lot of new users to CB. This is good for viewers and The Jeff's pocketbook, but CB now has an identity crisis.
You have new people who don't understand the CB's jokes, nuances, ways of thinking. You have old people who developed a home here and a tight-knit message board family. You have new people who lurked and finally feel brave enough to post, but this increases traffic and muddies the board. You also have cliques of negative nancies, Mormon taliban, BYU fans who aren't Peter Priesthoody, etc.
The problem in my view is that CB has an identify crisis. What is it? What does it do? Many of us came for BYU info, but stayed because of the awesome community that was here. Now, however, cougarboard has many divides that aren't being address. Cougarboard doesn't know what it wants to be. It wants to be everything to everyone.
So, you have infighting. You have the banished or disaffected joining Cougarguard 2.0 (CUF). I wouldn't be surprised if even more pop up.
I guess what I'm saying in short is that cougarboard needs to decide what it wants to be and then users will migrate to other message boards. I think this is what is happening already and it will continue for awhile. Everyone will have to choose where they belong or if there is a new niche they can forge.
My 2 cents.
