Though the "a lot worse" means that one day her uncle was going to pay some of his farmworkers and someone attempted to murder him to steal the payroll money. He was shot (I think in the shoulder area) and had to drive his truck while ducking for cover like something in a movie. I think he rammed a few of them with his truck as part of his escape.

I've heard that things are more stable now (hard to get much worse than that) but don't know much about how that applies to the missionaries.
