It seemed the whole thing hinged on UA and ASU deciding not to separate
If they had decided to separate I feel like the Big 12 would've been fine at 14 for the time being. Leaving Utah and ASU behind in a watered down Pac-6 would've still essentially killed the conference even if it did backfill to "survive".
