Contract: each party agreed to work together for a period of time; at the end of
that period both have fulfilled their obligation. Either party or both, in good conscience, can decide to not continue. Getting fired means one party arbitrarily cuts the contract short, not giving the other the full opportunity to achieve all they were setting out to do.
The first doesn't necessarily imply incompetence, the other does.
