Kanon was one of our better perimeter defenders before he was switched to the reserves as the 4. Which is where he really began to struggle on D.
If Richie, for instance, were a better perimeter defender than Kanon, then they woulda swapped defensive assignments in the time Kanon were the starter. Sure, Kanon's offense needed work, but swapping him outa the starting lineup was more about fixing the team than fixing the weak link in the lineup. Kanon's ability to cover up top ALLOWED for Knell to work baseline, for one. Do you really think Knell at the 4 was an ideal defensive alignment??
