You are probably right. I've been rich and I've been poor. Rich is better, but
only because it makes many things easier. The amount of money has had very little impact on my ability to feel joy, happiness or personal satisfaction. In fact, I sometimes wonder if it wasn't easier to find joy when I was poor because I was much more appreciative of the small and simple things in life.

I know, you are quoting Fiddler on the Roof right now:

Perchik: Money is the world's curse.
Tevye: May the Lord smite me with it. And may I never recover!

I can just say that given my personal experience, if I were in the shoes of Egor's family and advisors, I would weigh heavily which path would help him find the most joy, happiness and personal satisfaction. I don't know that maximizing wealth is the sure path to find it.

Also, I would not blame them one bit for guiding him towards wealth creation. I just hope the kid finds joy.
