Hey, older dudes. Strength train. Today's a great day to start (slowly).
I'm just a wiry old guy. Still middle-aged? ... mmm, maybe not. Ha ha! I don't worry about PRs. On heavy lifts, I generally stop two short of my max reps - to be safe. I work around lots of old injuries - skipping some exercises and adjusting others. Creatine, protein powder, Omega 3, and Vit. D (which I monitor through occasional blood tests) are pretty much it for supplements. Nuthin' there to brag about, I know. Blaze way Cougarboard, it works for me. 😃

Keys: 1) I don't skip workouts (even leg day! :-D), and 2) I try to eat clean ... sorta clean anyway. Super simple. What's the payoff for modest effort? Today (yup, she's workin' on Saturday), my doc's nurse called with blood test numbers. Everything looks good. The inflammation number literally couldn't be better. No diabetes worries. The other day, the guys over at the doctors office were shocked by my grip strength - they measured it twice. Ha ha! And - this is a shocker - occasionally some stranger will randomly say, "You're lookin' fit." How cool is that? I promise, I don't look all that fit. Ha ha! But yeah, it's a healthy little ego boost. And it's motivation to keep grinding.

So train. Trim some of those processed foods outta your diet. This stuff doesn't have to dominate your life, thought it's gonna improve your life for sure. Just be consistent. And no, it's not too hard! No, most people aren't too weak-willed. Man, I hate hearing people say that! It ain't true! People who tell ya that stuff are wrong! Tune them out! Just start slow. Start easy. Be consistent. Build up over time. Consult your doctor first if ya think ya need to. But do it!

(Adding one important thing: the first response I got to this was a "thumbs down." Shut out negative input. Unless it comes from your doctor, people who criticize your move toward better health - or who make excuses for you - aren't your friends, and they don't have your best interests in mind. Push past that stuff. )
