Random streaks happen with coin tosses and dice rolls all the time. Streaks of made baskets aren't any more common. Further, a shot is NOT more likely to go in after 3 makes than after 3 misses.

So from a pure numbers perspective, heat checks aren't that different from other shots.

Do players play with more confidence after making 3 shots? Probably, but that is a different question.
