That accounts for opponents, so they're not elite (as the #9 ranking would suggest), but they're still a very good defensive team
Basically Cincinnati with better offense. Closest overall comps for VCU are probably Oregon and Marquette

For those curious BYU's defensive rating is 100.6 (#68), but the offensive rating is 123 (#11) for an overall +22.39 (#24)
Also, Houston is the #2 defense, Iowa St the #9 and WVU #15 (West Virginia's offense is abysmal though - #131). Providence's defense, by the way, is #136 - that one is just always going to be an absurd loss
