It makes the first couple rounds almost entirely pointless except for hoping your winner gets through. Other games are almost completely meaningless.

Just doubling the points of the games in each round is a lazy way to do scoring.


(Disclaimer: I haven't looked closely to see if that's exactly how ESPN does it. But I do remember that I think they over-reward picking the winner.)
