everything, but what would 10 min quarters accomplish?
1. Length of games would go down by 8 minutes of game time. There is certainly some stoppage time in there, so let's call it 12 minutes. There will not be less commercials and end of game situations will still exist the same as today.
2. The best players would not play a whole lot less. Why would they? They obviously can play the same amount they were playing without issue.
3. Load Management: Almost no help there as the wear and tear on the body will change very little. Getting ready for a game and going all out takes a lot out of someone. An extra couple of minutes per player per night difference isn't going to change much of anything.
4. End result? There will be less need for role players on a team. Most competitive teams will go 7 or 8 deep as there simply isn't a need for more than that.
5. Every record that has ever happened from 80 years of 12 minute games becomes not relevant to the new system.
If you are really worried about timing of games, get rid of one timeout per half per team. That 12 minutes has now been made up without losing any game play. The problem? Those 12 minutes are all ad times and you don't want to get rid of that.
