a conference season playing teams with basically the same advantages. Which game were they going to say that after? When you play teams with the same or similar advantages most every week for 3 months, why would ever bring up advantages over teams you aren’t playing?

I’m not a fan or even close for any team outside the Big12 and a few G5s in the west. I see no reason why a coach would say what you wrote after playing a team that is in the same boat.
