Let's look at the whole college season rather than just the playoff. There is no doubt that a 24 team playoff would be
awesome in a vacuum. It would be better than a 16 team playoff for sure.
The problem with 24 teams is that it lessens the importance of the regular season by too much. It removes much of the tension/importance of regular season games. If you can lose 4 times and still make the playoffs, then each regular season game is less important.
There needs to be a balance. There are way more regular season games than playoff games. I don't want to diminish the regular season at the expense of a 24 team playoff. Each loss in the regular season should hurt. It adds excitement to those games.
