You can't have a 7 game playoff in football. There are two options to try to find the best team. 1. A playoff. 2. An eye
test.
I prefer the playoff and I think 12 teams is enough to find the best team. I think the best team will rarely finish the season out of the top 10. I don't think 4 teams is enough because I think it's realistic that the best team could finish the regular season ranked between 5 and 10.
A 4 team playoff relies too much on the eye test.
A 24 team playoff allows teams with 4 losses into the postseason - that's too many.
I like the 12 team playoff.
I'd be fine with 16 but feel that is too watered down. I think it's unlikely the best team in football finishes the season outside of the top 12.
