my ward moved out this past year, and I’ve been trying to find new people to watch the game with. I didn’t know of anybody else in the ward who both liked BYU and also liked sports.

However, during the Utah game a morning meeting was cancelled for the next day, and someone I never would’ve guessed was a sports fan replied that he was glad he could stay up late watching the game and not have an early meeting. So I chatted with him and found out that he is a big fan and his wife is an even bigger fan, having gone to games all growing up with her grandpa’s season tickets.

I invited them over for the Kansas game, and after the game we remarked that maybe we were bad luck and shouldn’t ever watch games together. Well, during the week we had a thought that maybe the problem was watching at my house so for the ASU game they invited us over to theirs.

After the ASU game we learned that we just aren’t compatible with the football gods and agreed not to get together for any other games this season. Maybe we’ll see next year if we can break the spell by watching the Portland State game together, but for now it is agreed that we will watch separately and do our part for the team.
