I've never seen the team or school use roses to honor those players. A logo was specially created for their memory, and
the school does many things to remember them.
Seems like a novel argument from that fan to deflect.

I still don’t understand the big deal about the Rose Bowl. It’s a bowl game. Not a playoff or national championship game
