How far back you have to go to find 10 ranked seasons for each Big 12 team

I'm also including (just for info purposes) how each team's last ten ranked seasons have played out.  That means the high and # of top 10 finishes is only for those last ten appearances

  1. Oklahoma St (2008, 2 top 10, high of #3)
  2. TCU (2005, 8 top 10, high of #2)
  3. Utah (2003, 3 top 10, high of #2)
  4. Kansas St (1998, 4 top 10, high of #6)
  5. BYU (1994, 1 top 10, high of #5)
  6. West Virginia (1993, 3 top 10, high of #5)
  7. Colorado (1990, 5 top 10, high of #1)
  8. Arizona St (1981, 3 top 10, high of #4)
  9. Baylor (1979, 2 top 10, high of #6)
  10. Houston (1974, 5 top 10, high of #4)
  11. Texas Tech (1953, 0 top 10, high of #11) — fun fact that Texas Tech is one of only 4 P5 team to never have a top 10 season
  12. Kansas (Infinite - have only had 8 total ranked seasons, 4 top 10, high of #7)
  13. Cincinnati (Infinite - have only had 8 total ranked seasons, 3 top 10, high of #4)
  14. Arizona (Infinite - have only had 8 total ranked seasons, 2 top 10, high of #4)
  15. UCF (Infinite - have only had 5 ranked seasons, 2 top 10, high of #6)
  16. Iowa St (Infinite - have only had 5 ranked seasons, 1 top 10, high of #9)

This was not intended to be putting down BYU and frankly we still look pretty good by this, even though it leaves out our best results in the 80s.  I was mostly just considering the related post that said that ASU had a strong history...because they really don't.

Honestly, the problem is that there's only 7 Big 12 teams (Colorado and above) that have been relevant 10+ times in the last 35 years, which is probably a big part of what hurts our conference perception.

And more specifically, this shows why the conference struggled so much with perception this year. The best consistently good Big 12 teams in recent history have been Oklahoma St, TCU and Utah (with Kansas St, BYU, WVU and Colorado forming a solid second tier).

And with all of Oklahoma St, TCU, and Utah being mediocre (TCU) to bad (Utah) to abysmal (Oklahoma St), that somewhat limited built-in credibility with the voters.

BYU, Kansas St and Colorado had some credibility, but ASU always trailed in polls until it was effectively impossible to have them behind
