We're still trying to accommodate "tradition" and still crown Fiesta, Rose, Sugar, etc bowl champs, as if being a bowl champ means something. We're also still trying to accommodate New Years Day.
As the great Mike Leach would say, this isn't that hard. You could still have byes for first round teams, but a month or more off of football is brutal.
Army-Navy should be moved up to CCG weekend. I know, those boys want a weekend all to themselves, but they're stretching the season out too long.
First round is then the weekend immediately after the CCGs (December 14th this year).
Second round is the next weekend (21st this year). Any team with a bye (a conference champ, so they played CCG weekend) is coming into their game like it's a game after a normal bye week. NBD.
If you want games on NYD, fine, the semis would be on January 1st. But you do that and you move the championship out to the 13th to be on a Monday. Not quite as bad as being on the 20th.
When they do inevitably move to 16 teams (and then 20, 24, etc), it will be for more money. But the move to 16 won't impact the schedule above.
