Not in terms of the penalty call, but it did impact the hit and the play
If that was a clean throw, the WR likely has time to catch and make a football move before being hit and thus no longer would be a defenseless player. That's a perfectly legal hit on a player that isn't defenseless.

But the tip slowed the ball down and gave time to the defender to close and make the hit earlier.
