The 4 highest-rated conference champs get a bye, by rule.
That was set up before the season began, so the committee had no discretion there, unless you’re arguing that Clemson (ACC champ) deserved a bye, which they did not.
I think the committee did a great job given the parameters of the system. I also think there’s room to tweak the system.
