There are things audiologists can do that may help. Sometimes, the best treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy that focuses on relieving the distress some sufferers feel.
I'm a believer in CBT. I've never done it with a therapist, but I've used the basic idea on my own to beat it. I still have bad months, but I always come out of it okay by telling myself that it's not so bad. Sometimes, I'm very stubborn, but it always works eventually.
