Doctors' interests do not align with yours exactly. This doesn't make doctors bad or mean that they always try to do wrong things. It just means that you should really be convinced if they propose something that doesn't help you in an obvious way. Maybe the surgery is fine either way, but the doctor is always going to err on the side of her own convenience or ability to bill.
