When authors reach a certain popularity they feel compelled to add some lgbt.
Then they regret it because they realize once they bend to the mob, they can never bend far enough. Like JK Rowling.

It was very weak. The sidelining of Kaladin’s character especially was dumb. The gay, interspecies kissing was gross.
