I recently did this. Bought it in CA for my niece. Had the title in my
possession but not filled out with new buyer's name (that would be her, not me).

My State Farm covers me for 30 days on any car I purchase. If there was an accident or need for a claim, I would have completed the title in my name.

Drove it to Utah, completed the proper forms for bringing a car in from out of state, and it was all done.

I will say that the Draper DMV with an appointment is the best DMV experience I've ever had at any DMV in any state. They actually helped us with the process, whereas in CA they're looking for a form you filled out wrong to tell you to go away and try again.
