Miami and BYU are the only 2 loss P4 teams not in the playoff in a season with more parity and upsets than normal.
In the CFP era, #11 Indiana in 2024 is the lowest-ranked 1-loss power conference team in the final CFP poll. (aside from 5-1 USC in 2020, but that's a huge asterisk with so few games played)
It's essentially guaranteed that any 1 loss power conference team will make the CFP, and I don't understand why this should be controversial.
If Miami lost 1 fewer game, they were almost certain to be in the playoffs. If BYU only lost one game, they were essentially guaranteed to be in. etc. etc. etc.
There will not be a 1-loss power conference team left out in the 12-team playoff era. Bookmark this post if you disagree.
