Full game film, attend the games, meet the kids at camps, watch them develop YoY, look for cultural fit, understand mission logistics and timing in their program, see how they’ve developed physically, watch their disposition under pressure, get signals of their leadership ability, learn about family background, they talk to their HS coach, etc.

The star rating folks watch some film, go to 7v7s for some eye candy, and throw a rating. I get it that even the colleges tout their star ratings once they sign, but the star ratings don’t lead the analysis, they follow it.
