Final game in HS was the first time I'd learned about it.
We had the other team pinned back with a dozen or so seconds left in the half, just like tonight. Coach told the return man to make sure he fair caught it. He did, on our own 47. Lined up and our kicker set the state record that night at 63 yards. We won the game 9-7.
At this point in my life I don't remember much else that happened that season, but seeing a 63 yard free kick FG was memorable.
