Yes, most owners would treat it like a business to maximize profits. Currently if a school makes any money on
athletics it is worth it to them because of everything else that goes with it (notoriety, student engagement, more students etc).

So if Oklahoma's new owner decides they are better off spending less and trying to win 7 games a year instead of 10 which would cost much more then all of the sudden Oklahoma is just screwed. We see it in professional sports leagues often.
