Just look at the top of the NBA Draft vs the NFL Draft. The same goes for HS recruiting. It makes sense to go all-in on a kid like Dybantsa because if he doesn't get injured you are almost guaranteed to have a highly productive player. Compare that to the percentage of Elite 11 QBs that never develop. Also, a single player on a basketball team can have a much bigger impact on success than in football. So the better investment is clearly basketball.
Unless you have a significant enough treasure trove to land an entire class of highly rated 4 & 5 star football talent, it is very difficult to buy yourself a quality football team. And that still depends on finding a QB that actually performs on the field.
