Academics are still part of it though. Players can be suspended for poor grades. If you’re arguing that college sports

It’s the only thing that makes sense. Can’t do it during the season
Borg
7:41am
It makes little sense from an academic standpoint
RGGeemer

Yep, and they are still students
Littlerich
7:43am
They are essentially pros. Missing a semester or making a mil is a no brainer
Borg
7:48am
That’s both a non sequitir and a strawman.
chilawcoug
7:49am
No. It’s obviously the only thing that matters to these guys else they wouldn’t
Borg

Twice in a row. Impressive again

Not everyone is leaving for money

I would venture the majority are
Borg

The number who are "making a mil" is miniscule
NGB

Then the athletes are screwed with the academic year
RealTaysomHill
7:42am
Yep. They have to drop out of the old school (have to enroll for the new
chilawcoug

They can dry their tears with hundred dollar bills. It’s not about academics.

If you had read my post, you’d know I never said it was about school
chilawcoug

If the portal opens mid Jan (after NC game) …they can still make it
Borg
7:52am
Only at some schools, and only if they enter, get offers, make decision
chilawcoug
7:53am
Hmm…I guess there are risks hitting the portal. Guess the grass isn’t always
Borg

I know you are already on your condescending high horse so whatever I say
chilawcoug

I hope they do bust up the current system with an anti trust lawsuit. What’s

Okay so you admit your proposed system won’t work. Got it.

Do players enroll in Spring semester if they plan to leave in the portal?
Borg
7:53am
They have to enroll in the school they will be attending if they want to participate in spring ball
RealTaysomHill
7:57am
Can’t they transfer after the season is over and finish the semester and then
ballen
7:51am
If my season ended in Dec. And I’m hitting the portal. Why would I enroll in
Borg
7:55am
Wait now you want a variable window depending on the team?
chilawcoug

Open the portal in April. Make academic requirements in order to transfer. You’d

Many reasons for entering the portal… team performance, coach changes,

Closes the later of January 9 or 1 week after you play your last game.

This is what Deliingham was talking about. He told his guys they can enter the transfer portal, but he still wants
P-Boy Squad

Did he get him in the position they’re in, or did they get him in the position

The bigger problem is timing of the playoff/bowls. School starts in January.

Don't most schools allow transfers at the beginning of the quarter (mid-semester

Some do, some don’t. And even for those who do, it’s not always in time for

In addition, one portal entry a year might be susceptible to antitrust claims

There's already a spring portal. They need to lengthen the time on that one and

They’d have to make athletes employees and collectively bargain that restriction
chilawcoug

Settlement with Congress? What do you mean?
chilawcoug

I really wish this rule came back.
TADOW

Athletes sued and the courts got rid of it. Not much the NCAA could do.
Ghost of Peanut

Is someone making him transfer?
benny1982
8:27am
That is a "back up the brinks truck if you want me to play in the playoffs" move
JimmyZ

The easier answer is you let them opt out of the next season for the transfer

There is an easy solution. Move the playoffs earlier. Start mid-December finish
