At that age there really isn’t a lot of skill. A kid that can simply dribble consistently would be considered “incredible “.
Are people coming to you and saying your kid is incredible or do you just make that assumption yourself?
I know this sounds harsh but as many others are saying, it’s this assumption by parents that make sports so bad…because they believe their kid is incredible.
How about I have a kid that seems to be grasping the sport quicker than others. From there i would explain to your kid and the best thing he can do is just keep grinding and finding new ways to stay interested and not burn out. And if at any point he feels that way to step back and take a break.
If he does seem to be excelling find a sport where you believe maybe he needs to work harder at it and have him try it. Maybe that will show him some humility and how others may be with bball.
Either way I really recommend to keep him grounded and doing multiple sports.
My son loves baseball and is going to play college ball next year at the D1 level. Just the other day told me he wishes his senior year he would have played a second sport that he could just have fun with. That baseball is a job and he takes it very seriously. He just wanted a fun “outlet” at times. He decided to audition for the school play because of this. Just to do something different.
