So not looking to discredit. I also disagree that 3rd down O is worthless. If you look at the teams at the top and the bottom, BYU is the outlier. Teams in BYU territory are generally really bad teams. Teams toward the top of that ranking are generally good. There are of course exceptions, BYU being one of them.

The O this year is what the numbers say. A middling offense and scoring was very high compared to their yardage and efficiency numbers. But you still are completely ignoring why that happened. 3 special teams return TDs, a kicker who was 21/24, 20 picks is why BYU was punching above their offensive stats with points scored. Its not that hard to see that
