Little bit of both.
I've seen too many people who run out of money and are essentially broke waiting till the end. My own grandparents - I don't think grandpa left his easy chair during the day except to go to his bed.

My wife once told me that if we save a bunch for retirement, and she dies, and I end up remarrying and spending it with someone else - she's going to be pissed at me.

I try to tell her that having too much money isn't going to be a problem for us. Not sure she believes me.

At this point - it feels like I'm more likely to do a soft retirement than a full retirement. Get to a point where I can cut back and work maybe 15-20 hours a week for spending money without burning through savings too quick.

Honestly - if I do happen to have a pile of money when I go that is unspent (Ha!) I'll be happy to have my kids use it to hopefully speed up their own timeline for retirement and/or paying off a home or something.
