Because that was part of the primary tie breaker only. Only problem is that ISU didn’t even play ANY of the top teams while BYU actually played ASU. The tie breaker should have been the combined record of their conference opponents not just the ones they didn’t tie with. Clearly the tie breaker rules were set up with head to head in mind, but that does work well when those tied don’t play each other. The conference is too big for everyone to play each other, of course. ISU had a soft conference schedule but so did BYU but at least they played ASU. Stupid Utes still should have beat ISU, and clearly regardless BYU blew the Kansas game. But both BYU and Colorado are better than ISU so the tie breaker process didn’t work well.
At least that’s what I heard. I could be wrong.
