What they need to do is consider them employees, do collective bargaining and
let the schools pay the players directly and yes as you said sign them to contracts, compensation and length can be negotiated. NIL was meant to be an off-the-field endorsement deal thing so if the schools can pay the players directly then NIL will be what it was meant to be.
