I see a lot of talk about prioritizing "top LDS" recruits, but I'm not sure how they are much different or better for the program than any other recruit who seeks out, respects, and will rep BYU culture. Honestly I think it may be even more positive when top players who are NOT members of the Church come to BYU, embrace the culture, and contribute significantly to its unique brand. Jake is making a lot of waves as a Jewish QB at BYU. Highly-rated non-LDS basketball players like Demin or Dybantsa may have the same or even greater potential.
Is there something essential about attracting "top LDS" recruits specifically that I'm missing?
