We have the exact same story. Really hard to learn on your own, but an expert who is a good teacher can improve your
casting tremendously in minutes.
I had a buddy who had been fishing for about a year and couldn’t cast more than ~25 feet. I could tell instantly he was just letting line slip through his left hand while the rod was in motion.
Literally a minute later he doubled his casting distance.
It’s hard to tell what’s going wrong when you don’t know what you don’t know.
