Hot take: RUTS wouldn't have helped BYU at all this season
Let's say we increase our offensive scores by 2-3 TDs in each of our wins. We still have a terrible loss to Kansas and a second loss to ASU. And we still don't make it into the CCG.
Even without RUTS we were already ranked #6 in the country, so we already had plenty of respect from the CFP committee. We just needed to keep winning...or at least avoid a really bad loss (like Kansas).
So even if we did RUTS in all our wins, we still don't make the CCG and there's no way we take an at large spot with our loss to Kansas.
As it is we're already going to the highest paying non CFP bowl game.
