Bronco was on the hot seat at UVA when he resigned, though
he wasn't forced out. Changes were demanded of him by the AD, and he declined to make them, so he resigned to avoid a standoff and risk getting fired. Had there been no pressure on him at UVA he wouldn't have retired. Getting smashed by BYU in a game where BYU had to sit on the ball to keep their score in the 60s, when Bronco is considered a DEFENSIVE specialist, certainly played a big role. UVA couldn't stop anyone that year.
