Not necessarily. RDR2 is a prequel to RDR1, so it’s not necessary for the story
That being said, having played 1 first made the story more interesting because you see the events from 2 that lead into the story in 1.
Regardless, RDR2 is an absolute masterpiece. It’s one of the greatest achievements in media history.
