Yep. I once reffed a game where I called 10 fouls on a team in the first 5
minutes. The coach called a timeout, taught his players how to adjust, and I didn't call another foul on them for the rest of the game. They destroyed the other team, they didn't need to be constantly bumping the ball handlers or pushing people on rebounds.

I didn't change, they did and it became a wide-open fun game. If refs are going to change how they ref in the second half, they should tell the coaches why and how. "We've noticed that people are being way too careless going for rebounds. We let it go in the first half, but we're concerned someone is going to get undercut or hurt so we're looking for clean box outs and over the back calls. Tell your players."

If you see refs talking to both coaches at the start of the second half that's what they're doing. So sometimes that change is intentional, but it shouldn't be coaches figuring it out 5 minutes into the second half. They should know ahead of time so they can tell their players. In CBB I don't see that happen much, but maybe it's just not included on the broadcasts.
