When he took over as QB coach and passing game coordinator, BYU had completed their worst season passing the ball in generations.
2018 - we identify a freshman QB is better than our 4 year starter and he starts over him.
2019 - our returning starter is hurt, but we have excellent depth at QB, with essentially no drop off down to our 3rd string QB
2020 - that returning starter is electric, ends up the #2 pick in the draft
Promoted to OC
2021 - new QB given the reins, is very talented. Win more P5 games in this season than some graduating classes have in 4 years.
2022 - offense is again effective, defense let's the team down as we struggle. QB is drafted
2023- bring in new talent at QB, but both QBs struggle. Transition to P4 league
2024 - former backup who played terribly is an effective starter, more P4 wins than any season, even more than 2021. Ten win season, tied for 1st in Big12.
Looking at the body of work, ARods been an excellent coach at identifying, coaching, and developing talent. Judging by the jumps our prior QBs have made, I expect Jake to be an excellent QB next year and for the offense to thrive.
