Everyone is trying to say that Arod was the reason we had a top 40 offense in
2021, his first year as OC. And he did. My only point is that if you are given an offense with Puka, Hall, and Allgeier with that year's mediocre schedule, I should hope you have a top 40 offense. You can be a bad crunch time play caller and still be successful when you have talent like that. Similar to how we won 9 games in 2016 with Detmer inheriting Hill and Williams.

Again, Yall should read my post before commenting. I have not argued that Arod is a bad OC. I think he is good. I explain that multiple times. THE issue with him is he is a horrible play caller whenever there is high pressure or "game on the line" situations. He is the college version of Kyle Shanahan. Gets to cute and tries to outthink himself.

A few examples:
- 1st and goal against OU, and we throw the pick-6.
- We have the lead in field goal range, trying to run the clock out, and we throw a pic against Baylor giving them the opportunity for a game winning drive.
- 1st and goal against Kansas, we just ran the ball down their throats and have them on the back foot, and we fade to the endzone throwing a pick.
- 2nd down and short, we put in Martin (our more shifty, less power RB) to run up the middle for minimum gain. Then sub him out for Hinkley (our power RB) on 3rd and 1. Then call a running play to the outside where SMU has the speed and athletic advantage rather than running him right up the gut. We get stuffed and have to give the ball away.

In those crunch time moments, you can almost always bank on a bonehead call that will put our guys in a difficult opportunity to succeed. That is my criticism of him. Not that he sucks. That has always been my claim:
