…I’d say our best chance comes if SMU crushes Clemson and ASU crushes ISU.
If SMU looks top 5 and we are only team to beat them, committee would need to at least give us some consideration.
If ISU loses to ASU much worse than we did, we probably look like 2nd best team in Big 12 to committee.
In this case our resume is better than Miami if committee chooses to actually look. Not sure committee can look past Bama bc they’re Bama…but if they choose to engage in question of how do you fairly justify allowing in only 1 3-loss team, they could decide to send a message that losing 3 games in regular season is not good enough to make a 12 team playoff.
Lots of ifs and I don’t see it happening (mostly because it would take some honest assessment from a group that seems scared to give <4 to each of SEC and B10…and seems more inclined to play to ratings over performance on the field)…but if there is a path, I think this is how.
Whenever ND gets in, B12 and ACC are in a tough spot. 6 at larges with an implicit expectation from Big10 and SEC to get 3 apiece.
