Also, if you’re getting a new passport simply because you’re out of pages you should be able to add pages.
I’ve had to do that while abroad. Take it to a local embassy and they can add pages. Or at least that’s what I’ve done in the past.

I just did it with an online application. It’s an option. The entire online process was less than two weeks.
