I'm guessing that many of those counties have such low population that it doesn't take many suicides to push the rate
into the red area.
Garfield County in Utah is red but only has a population of just over 5000 people.

This map is crazy. What's up with the Mountain West and PNW?

Elevation for Mountain West. Lack of sun for PNW.

I read a study that talked about altitude and weather. No idea if that's true.
